My life is chaotic. Many of my neighbors and friends have multiple children and tell us they envy our childless life with all its free time and such. I never correct them because really they need the incentive that life will be less chaotic for them once their children reach some milestone. But, Steve and I are involved in our own various interests and it keeps us busy. I love it. Last night several of my various interests came together. If I could repeat this efficiency for all my interests then I truly would have some of that free time.
Steve and I attended a fundraising event held by ABC of Georgia. I am a new member of the committee that holds this event, which they call a Chinese Auction. I was a bit troubled by the heavily racial undertones of this event but found that it's a common fundraising event. For our event you pay to enter the event and receive an auction paddle (see picture). Organizations and members donate small auction items in the $25-100 range. The auctioneer holds up said items one at a time and the audience bids on them with their paddles. The auctioneer calls out the numbers on the paddles in a very random way until a gong is sounded. The last number called gets the item. There were 245 items. No money is exchanged because you paid at the door. They also have an open bar which adds to the hilarity of the event. It was fun.
There was also a silent auction for higher priced items such as week stays at beach houses, event tickets and such. My favorite silent auction items where three dual action flush toilets. They were hot items.
