Cape Family Reunion

My father's side of the family gathered for a family reunion last weekend. Pictured is my father's father's family Thanksgiving Day 1942. My father says that my grandfather was suffering from typhoid fever at the time and left bed to dress and stand for the photo.

Seated left to right are Carrie, Mary Jane (my great grandmother), Bryom Alexander (my great grandfather), Willard, and Emma Liza Jane. Standing left to right are Willie, Fred (my grandfather), M.D., Arthur Lee, Roy and Walter. Willard is the only living sibling and she was at the reunion. M.D.'s wife, Ila, is also still living and is 102 years old this year.

The roots of the reunion started when the family would gather for my great-grand mother's birthday each year. I have some memories of these gatherings as a little kid. We now gather at Penia Baptist Church, which is where my family attended church when we lived in Cordele. Many of my extended family members attended this church and many still attend. Many of my mother's family live or lived in Cordele as well. It was not until 6th grade that I realized that not everyone grows up visiting and living with their cousins on a daily basis.
