Pre-Memorial Day Fun

What do I love about my neighbors? Well, there are so many things. But one is the spontaneous party planning - really it is spontaneous in breeder terms. While enjoying the Wednesday evening drinking a cocktail in the Breault front yard someone mused that most of us would be at home for the Memorial Day weekend for once. We were silent for about a second and then quickly decided we would have a party. We all committed to the food we would bring and the fun that would be had. Yeah!

Sunday was chosen. The site of the party would be left up to the weather. I ventured out to Target to buy another water gun. One of the street kids had gotten to gun toting age since the last time we had a party.

Sunday arrived. The weather decided we would have the party on our back porch. The most fabulous food was displayed. The highlights included a cold tomato basil soup, pecan pie, a ton of delicious salsa and guacamole, a great loaf of homemade bread, a wonderful tabbouleh salad, fabulous bean salad, the best chocolate cookies in the world, home-made maple granola ice cream and so, so, so much more. Steve and I made 4 different sauces for grilled sausages. Our food sounds boring compared to the rest, but is was good.

The kids were out of control fun. We later had to usher them inside for a movie because of heavy rain. Steve and I keep the bed room off the porch as a kid play room complete with kid only TV, DVD player, DVDs, remote controlled rat, and other toys for this very purpose.

Later the adults had some adult time. I called it quits at midnight because Kate and Sarah had decided to sleep over and would be up by 7am (if I was lucky).

It was a great evening that I unfortunately did not document to film. Trust me. It was a good time.
